Autistic Children Have Brains Larger Than Normal Children

The researchers found that boys who have autism have a larger brain volumes than their counterparts of normal. However, this does not happen in girls who have autism.

In the largest study of its kind, researchers found that children with regressive autism has a brain volume of six percent greater than those without autism. This discovery adds to evidence that the condition of the brain that is affected incurable neurological development.

Autism, which affects one in every 100 people, will inhibit the ability to communicate, recognize emotions and socialize. Autism occurs in the form of a mild or severe.

During the study, University of California scans 180 brain of children aged two to four years. MRI scan of the 61 children known to have regressive autism when children aged 18-24 months. The rest, 53 people have autism detected early and 66 people do not have autism at all.

Lead researcher Christine Wu Nordahl said, "The findings show a boy with regressive autism show different forms of neuropathology of children who have autism early," he told the Daily Mail.

On the other hand, girls with autism in this study, no differences compared to normal children. Experts suspect, this could prove the existence of gender influences in autism.

The findings, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Editionmendorong scientists to investigate how the brain pathology varies in different autism groups. Share this post :
