People who feel alone and lonely at high risk of dementia. Researchers concluded Arkin Mental Health Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, after observations of 2200 participants aged 65-86 years.Dementia is a term used to describe the syndrome of functional decline in brainpower. In a report published by the journal Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, researchers said participants who feel lonely higher risk of dementia.
At the end of the observation, the researchers found that 13.4% of participants who have dementia are those who feel alone and lonely.
Whereas the opposite participants only 5.7% experiencing dementia. In other words, people who feel lonely at risk up to 1.64 times higher dementia.
Researchers estimate that happening because of the lack of stimulus that stimulates the brain to think.
